Animal Rights & Other Animal Issues
- Animal Protection Voters of New Mexico. It is a social welfare [501(c)(4)] organization, that is allowed to conduct unlimited lobbying. One important tool that can be used to reduce animal suffering is passing laws that better protect animals. In order to pass local, state and federal laws, it’s necessary to build a force that our lawmakers cannot ignore. Making animal issues important to lawmakers involves extensive lobbying, helping to elect good candidates to all kinds of public offices, and holding those officials accountable for how they vote on animal issues.
- The Humane Society of the United States protects all animals through legislation, litigation, investigation, education, advocacy and field work. A non-profit organization, The HSUS celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004, is based in Washington, D.C. and has seven regional offices across the country.
- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.
